Lodewikus is an attorney with right of appearance in the High Court of South Africa and an associate member of the Association of Arbitrators (Southern Africa) NPC. He specialises in construction, engineering and energy law, with a particular focus on complex, high-value infrastructure, power and energy storage projects across Southern Africa.
Since joining Tiefenthaler Legal in 2019, Lodewikus has advised contractors, subcontractors and employers on large-scale renewable energy, BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) and industrial projects, including developments with contract values ranging from hundreds of millions to multi-billion rand. His experience spans wind energy facilities, solar PV plants, battery energy storage projects, mining-related works and major civil and electrical infrastructure developments.
He has extensive experience advising on a broad range of project and operational agreements, including EPC contracts, Turbine Supply and Installation Agreements, Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), Self-Build Agreements (SBAs), Distribution Agreements, Operation and Maintenance (O&M) Agreements, Service and Availability Agreements and other bespoke commercial frameworks. He regularly advises under standard-form contracts such as JBCC, NEC, FIDIC and GCC, as well as heavily amended and fully bespoke agreements.
His practice is firmly centred on dispute avoidance, claims strategy and formal dispute resolution. He advises on contract administration and risk allocation, variations, extension of time and delay claims, disruption and acceleration claims, certification and payment disputes, performance and availability issues and termination. He works closely with delay and quantum experts in the preparation and defence of technically complex, high-value claims.
Lodewikus is known for his structured, analytical and commercially focused approach to dispute and claims management. He combines rigorous contractual interpretation with a practical understanding of project execution, programming and commercial drivers, enabling him to deliver clear, decisive advice in high-pressure project environments.
He obtained his LLM in 2019 with a focus on energy law, strengthening his expertise in the regulatory and contractual frameworks governing power generation, storage and infrastructure development.
