Martin was appointed as Chairman of Tiefenthaler in 2022. He is a partner with dual admission as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa and as a lawyer in the Supreme Court of New South Wales, Australia.
He provides legal services to those role players in the building, construction, engineering, energy, mining, oil and gas sector. He is predominantly appointed on a retainer basis whereby he has gained extensive knowledge and experience in dealing with challenges encountered throughout a project life-cycle and the resolution of disputes through negotiations without having the need to resort to adjudication, arbitration or court.
He regularly assists in the structuring and drafting of various types of agreements during the pre-contract stage in relation to funding and the appointment of agents and contractors for the execution of a project. He has been the lead attorney in a number of high profile disputes resolved through adjudication, arbitration and Courts domestically, South Africa and abroad in countries such as Australia, Kyrgyzstan, Romania, Sri Lanka, Qatar and United Arab Emirates based on standard forms of contract (FIDIC, NEC, GCC, JBCC etc.) and bespoke forms of contract relating to power stations, mining operations, high rise buildings, infrastructural works and renewable energy.
He is a member of several local and international associations including the Association of Quantity Surveyors of South African and a fellow member of the Association of Arbitrators (Southern Africa).
